"Out
there, it's like there's pressure - if I don't like what someone says
to me, I fight. I'm always ready to fight; that's my way. On stage
the pressure goes away. I can really be me. I used to think acting
was for punks."

(right) R. was 9
years old when this photo was taken. Growing up under very difficult
circumstances, she was inspired by her City Hearts Ballet Classes.
She auditioned for the Joffrey Ballet and was selected to dance
as a Snow Fairy in their 1990 production of the 'Nutcracker'.

"I
was young and going through stages, getting into trouble with
tagging and stuff...and instead of doing community service
over and over again I was introduced to this program in which
I did some performing arts, instead of cleaning all the time,
for community service."

"I have people I can trust here
and they're my friends, I couldn't trust nobody else. This is my
place. It's my second home".
